IPA to speech

Want to read a transcription and hear it at the same time? Every word IPAtics transcribes comes with native text-to-speech — you see the IPA and hear the sound together, so the symbols are never just marks on a page.

Read the IPA, hear it spoken — across 14 languages.

Read it and hear it, together

A phonetic transcription only helps if you can connect the symbols to a real sound. IPAtics pairs the two: when you transcribe a word, you get its IPA and a native text-to-speech voice saying it — at the same moment. You are not decoding symbols in your head and guessing; you read /həˈloʊ/ and hear it.

On the desktop app you can also tap any individual symbol in the overlay to learn its phonetic name and see example words, then save the word or turn it into Anki cards. The transcription becomes something you can actually practice, not just look at.

IPA Reader vs IPAtics

They solve different problems. The difference is direction — which way the conversion runs.

IPA Reader

  • Direction: paste IPA symbols → synthesized audio
  • Good when you already have a phonetic string to hear
  • One direction — it does not produce the IPA for you
  • Free, browser-based

IPAtics

  • Direction: text → IPA + native audio, together
  • You get both the symbols and the sound from a real word
  • 14 language varieties with auto-detection
  • Free web converter, plus desktop app with saved words and Anki cards
