For ESL Teachers & Tutors

A pronunciation tool that gives you your evenings back

IPAtics speeds up the parts of teaching pronunciation that eat prep time: generating IPA for worksheets, building minimal-pair drills, modeling native audio live in class, and exporting ready-made Anki decks for your students.

macOS & Windows. 14 languages, native audio, CEFR-aware Anki export.

Lesson prep eats your evenings

Putting pronunciation on a worksheet means looking up each word, finding its IPA, getting the stress marks right, and typing symbols a normal keyboard does not have. For a single handout that is dozens of words, and the moment a student asks about a word you did not prep, you are guessing at the board.

IPAtics removes that lookup. Select any word in any app, press Alt+Q (Option+Q on Mac), and the IPA appears in a floating overlay with native audio — so the slow, manual part of prep stops being your problem.

Where it fits a teacher's day

The same overlay covers prep, the board, drills, homework, and exam readiness.

Handouts & worksheets

Select any word and get its IPA in the overlay — copy it straight onto a handout. No phonetic keyboard, no hunting through a dictionary per word.

Board work & live modeling

Pull up the IPA on the fly mid-lesson and play native text-to-speech audio so the whole class hears the target sound, not just your accent.

Minimal-pair drills

Generate Minimal Pair cards that place two near-identical words side by side, so students train the contrast their ear keeps missing.

Homework decks via Anki

Turn a lesson’s vocabulary into ready-made Anki cards — IPA, audio, example sentences, and translations — and hand the deck to students for spaced review.

Exam prep (IELTS / CEFR)

Cards generate at a chosen CEFR level (A1–C2), and phoneme-level speech analysis shows where a student’s production drifts before the speaking test.

For the drills specifically, see the confusing English minimal pairs worth building, and the IELTS pronunciation IPA guide for exam prep.

How it fits a teaching workflow

1

Prep the lesson faster

Select target words from your reading or coursebook, grab the IPA and audio from the overlay, and drop them onto your handout — no phonetic keyboard required.

2

Teach with it live

In class, pull up IPA on the board and play native audio for any word a student asks about. Tap a symbol to show its name and example words.

3

Send homework that sticks

Generate CEFR-aware Anki cards — including minimal pairs — and export the deck to students via the free AnkiConnect add-on for spaced review between lessons.
